Since I got my dedicated server a few weeks ago, I’ve had several instances when I was told two completely different things by two different techs. This morning, I was told that I didn’t need to restart exim when making changes to remotedomains. 20 minutes later, when my email still wasn’t being delivered, I was told by another tech that I need to restart exim whenever I make changes to remotedomains.

I must say the support is really the worst I have experienced with any other company. You have mail so many times then also the problem doesn’t gets solved and when it comes to the public forums it gets solved instantly. Why would I purchase an Elite Dedicated Server (and pay over $200) when I can’t even run 10-15 sites out of which only 2-3 sites rcv good traffic

I’ve submitted this to the feedback email but I’m also posting it here because I feel the community should be able to respond. I know I’m not the only one having these issues. Here is a copy of the email I sent to feedback@hostgator.com : To whom it may concern: I have been a customer with Host Gator for many many years now and have always been impressed with your service. Especially through the live chat system. It has been my experiences with the live chat techs that has made me confident enough in you to be at a point where I now have 2 managed dedicated servers and one separate reseller account with you. Over the course of the last 6 months or so the quality of the help available via live chat has fallen dramatically. They no longer try to help at all. They simply refer you to submit a ticket which takes a long time to get a response to.

HostGator TOS requires that a current root password be kept on file for VPS and dedicated servers (which is reasonable). The only way to do this is to submit a ticket with the root password in plaintext. Tickets are fully viewable in the ticket system. The security of all VPS and dedicated servers now unnecessarily depends on the security of the ticket system authentication. A better solution would be a WHM/cPanel addon or a one way drop box with secure submission

I use DotNetNuke almost exclusively and was leaving a company that specialized in that software. As migrations issues came up, the HostGator team has been absolutely superb in quick response time and great answers. Issues are solved in one try and their depth of knowledge seems to span every facet of hosting from domains, to email, to SQL server, to .Net. I have been impressed with a service level that I could only dream about from my former hosting provider. I would recommend HostGator to anyone.

Just curious, what is the max CPU usage for a reseller account and all sub accounts under the reseller account. I’m currently on another hosting plan with another host, and just received an e-mail from them saying that one of my scripts (livezilla is what I was using) hit 1% CPU usage and that I should upgrade to a dedicated server… I’m wondering if HostGator has similar restrictions and what they are. In addition, I’m considering the fact that maybe I do need a dedicated account. :thanks:
